Day 20 - That Lady (The Isley Brothers)
Anchorman helped bring back amazing classics in its seventies newsroom spoof. But one in particular, That Lady by the Isley Brothers, was featured as lothario Ron Burgundy first lay eyes on sexy Victoria Corningstone, played by one of my favorites, Christina Applegate. Now, and probably forever on, when I hear this song I think of her and that moment. But the song itself is friggin’ amazing: funk guitars galore, a sick organ solo that grooves seemingly endlessly, and a beat that makes your head and hips move. The song also reminds me of Moosheeta, whom I love and who also loves music the way I do, specifically great funk tunes like this from the early to mid-seventies. I remember one time, hanging out in the yard while Frank was barbequing, I’d been tasked with the afternoon playlist, and when this song came on Moosheeta went mental with air guitar and whistling. It was a sight, but a wonderful sight that I will always remember.
