Day 38 - Jumper (Third Eye Blind)
There’s not much to be said about lead singer Stephan Jenkins’ voice. And overall, Third Eye Blind’s catalogue of music is pretty mediocre, and background filler to the era. But they had one song that resonated to me: Jumper. I’ve addressed depression and dependence and suicidal thoughts in much of my social media blogging, but this song, clearly about addiction and the opposite of clarity, sweeps you up in its melodic rock lull, and Jenkins’ voice matches the desperation of wanting to help in any way he can. He represents any one of us, the real people right here on the ground, as we feel helpless to those we love in need. Even if it means I never get to see you again, but you get the help you need to get yourself well, I would understand.
