Day 31 - Easy Lover (Philip Bailey And Phil Collins)
Pop star and funk genius band together in the height of the M.T.V. era and magic happens. And if you know me at all, you KNOW I cannot resist a good duet. This one is at the top of my list of favorites. I present to you one of the best songs from the mid-eighties, and most played videos on M.T.V. Easy Lover, by Earth Wind & Fire vocal magician Philip Bailey, and the brilliant Phil Collins. I can imagine myself sitting on my high-riser bed in Aunt Kay’s basement where I lived ever so briefly in January of 1985 while deciding what to do about college. the T.V. was perpetually tuned into M.T.V., from the minute I woke up (late) to the moment I’d fall asleep (late). And there they’d be, Collins playfully trying to mimic Bailey’s dance moves. The song is clearly about some filthy British slutrocket, but that doesn’t even matter. It just kicks ass. It’s a happy, bouncy pop classic and makes me feel happy.
