I have shared my birthday every year with the Christmas season, that they have become synonymous, and I am truly okay with that. It’s nice to feel like my birthday happens amidst the happiest time of the year, a time for family and friends, a time for giving the best of ourselves. And Christmas songs are a huge part of my birthday. The legends and the new ones, they are all part of me. I don’t think this Christmas song needs an introduction. However, I will tell you that it reminds me of my dad, the ultimate old timer who loved playing his Bing Crosby albums around the holidays and who would never admit he actually liked the marriage of Bing’s voice with that of androgynous pop star David Bowie. If memory serves me right, this aired on a Bing Crosby Christmas special and I remember dad liking it. And for that reason, it’s among my favorite Christmas songs of all time. I tear up a little every time I hear it, longing for days that are so far gone there is almost too much dust on the memories.
