Day 5 - Gravity (Sara Bareilles)

This song by this amazing, contemporary singer/songwriter just truly speaks for itself. We’ve all heard Sara Bareilles’ mega hits all over the radio, and even now on Broadway. But Gravity is, to me, not just her greatest, most passionate song, but one of the greatest, most passionate songs by any artist in many, many years. The lyrics seem so personal to Sara, but I feel them so personally as someone who thinks he’s strong but in reality is weak and needy. I could watch and listen to this video endlessly, and each time I will well up, because I get it. I am it. And, reminiscent of Lisa Loeb’s Stay, about which I wrote earlier in this year’s countdown, the video is shot all in one take. Things like that blow me away, on top of the simplicity and beauty of the song it represents.
