Day 38 - Who You Love (John Mayer)

John Mayer is one of my favorite artists to emerge from this shitty new millennium. Along with a voice like a male angel, he is a brilliant musician. I have seen him perform several times, and he has always put on an amazing live performance. So when it came down to choosing a song for this countdown purpose, I was a little perplexed. I happen to love his ballads, because you really get to enjoy that smooth voice, so I looked at the list and saw so, so many. I chose his duet with then-love Katy Perry, Who You Love. Though I’m not a giant fan of hers, I did love the raw truth in the lyrics and the vocals of the song. He writes beautiful truths, this John Mayer with the bad-boy reputation. If you sit and close your eyes while listening to this song, I think you can actually glean into his soul. He really means it. And frankly, so does Katy; she’s not just screwing around at a teenage Friday night party. He probably didn’t think of the gay community while penning these lyrics (though there is a lesbian couple featured in the video); however, these lyrics are descriptive proof of the phrase, Love Is Love.
