Day 9 - Sam (Olivia Newton-John)

What more can I say about Olivia Newton-John that I haven’t already said? Two of her songs garnered the Day 3 spot in my first countdown 3 years ago, finishing just a nose behind Kiss On My List by Hall and Oates, and Total Eclipse By Bonnie, and in that day’s blog I spoke about how my mother loved her, and told me to listen closely, for this is the voice of an angel. Someday when I’m being remembered in a eulogy, at least one person will remember me fondly, anytime they hear the voice of this Aussie seraph. My memory will be synonymous to any song by Olivia. Today I celebrate her with Sam, certainly not one of her more popular ballads, but a perfect showcase of that mesmerizing swoon of which Olivia is capable. It’s a sweet tale about two lonely people and the possibility that they might reconnect. But who cares what she’s singing about, as long as she’s singing. Dear sweet baby Jesus, do I love this woman.
