The first time I fell in love, real love, with someone who was my equal, my friend, my lover, was at the end of 1990. Many of you know who this boy was, and some of you went through all my self-induced drama with me in those formative years. Needless to say there are MANY songs that remind me of him, but most of those are sad ones that followed the break-up, when my heart was tender, bleeding like an open wound. (No mentioning names, let’s protect the innocent here.) Today’s song, however, is the sensation, the passion of the newness that was the start of that beautiful relationship. During the apex of Whitney’s career, she released an album that, of course, I played to death, and among the most played was All The Man That I Need. Even now, I can hear it and picture his face. We were so perfectly matched. We were those young guys in love that everyone hates, the ones who, if it were today, would be blasting their romance all over social media. Well, maybe that would just have been me, because I was out loud and he was still silent, and that’s what took him from me: my own blasted impatience. I could talk about this subject forever. I could tell you he’s the one that got away, and that would be an insult to my current Woof whom I love to the moon and back. So instead, let’s just listen to Whitney.
