Sheena Easton blasted onto the pop scene in my favorite year with Morning Train, that kitschy classic which evokes an earworm as big as Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up. But when the glamorous Scot released these two ballads, You Could Have Been With Me and Almost Over You, I was bowled over. Not since Olivia Newton-John was I as enamored with a glorious back-lit mulleted goddess, until Sheena showed up belting out brokenhearted ballads about loss and regret. Strangely enough it wouldn’t be for another eleven or so years that I would actually come to experience the feeling about which Sheena sang in both of these songs. And in retrospect, I kind of wish I’d never come to know these emotions the way I did slash kind of still do.
